Guess what I have been up to? Packing!! Not that packing is fun but moving into a house after renting for over a year is. I am so excited. This house has great bones but could definitely use a face lift.

Half-Bath Makeover

Yes we are still renting. But I couldn't wait for a house any longer. I had to paint and decorate something or I was going to lose my mind. I figured the easiest thing to do was the half bath off our kitchen. It was the one room in this house I hated and the room that could not be hidden from guests. Since it is not my house I couldn't do any permanent changes and I wanted to spend as little as possible.

Total cost just under $60.
Total time 1 1/2 days.

Simple Valentine's Centerpiece

I love this centerpiece. And the kids love eating it!!

I just used a glass hurricane a white candle and some hard heart candies as filler. Oh yeah and I wrapped a cute ribbon around the hurricane.

                          I am hoping this lasts till Valentine's Day!!

I love when things are simple. It is so satisfying to sit down and make decor that takes only a few minutes, and still looks great. I have been busy this week making and decorating my home for Valentine's Day. I will be sharing what I have done next week.

My Christmas "Mantel" from 2009

I saw a great blogging party over at The Stories of A to Z linking up last years Christmas mantels and had to join in. I can't wait to see all the beautiful mantels and steal some great ideas for my un-mantel mantel. I used to have a mantel but we moved last year from NC (where I had a gorg fireplace with mantel) to MD with no mantel at all.

So these are pics from my dining room sideboard. I call it it my un-mantel mantel.

I wish I took a picture at night it looks so nice with the Christmas lights on and the candles lit.

Fun After School Snack

The kids started school last week!!
To celebrate the first day I made Rice Krispy Balls for our after school snack.

Melt 3 Tbsp butter.

Add 4 cups Mini Marshmallows

6 Cups of Rice Krispies

I measured out 1/4 and shaped it into balls.

Decorated the balls with chocolate and sprinkles and placed popsicle sticks in the center.

A Chic Jewelery Birthday Party!!!

We celebrated my daughter's 11th birthday last weekend. She wanted to do a jewelry themed party. So I searched and searched and found nothing:( I did find some adorable black and blue printables for a chic chandelier theme from Accent The Party Blog. I was so lucky to have my sister in town that week to help me with the party.

I used confetti, feathers and diamonds to accent the table.

I found silver sprinkles at Joann's.

I used scrapbook paper and the cupcake toppers to wrap the water bottles.

We found these rings at The Dollar Tree!!

To make the puch we used Sprite and Hawaiin Punch.

Boyfriend Shorts Tutorial

Sorry, sorry, sorry. I know summer seems like it is almost over:( But it isn't:) It will be warm here till November!!! Any whoo. I made a pair of boyfriend shorts like last month but have been so busy with vacations and family visiting I just haven't been the most faithful poster. I love these shorts and they were very easy to make.

I have kept these jeans forever like this. They were so cumfy fitting that I knew i would eventually use them for something.

First thing was to cut the pants into shorts by folding them to be sure that both sides were of equal length.

Then the fun began. I just randomly started ripping wholes with a pair of scissors.

The key was to keep switching from an up and down pattern to a side too side.

I also ruffed up the pocket a little.

And my finished product. I could have made the holes larger but I think a few time sin the wash should do the trick.

My daughter wants a pair now!!

Summer So Far.......

Yesterday I quickly briefed you on everything we have been up to lately. Just wanted to share some photos.

When my parents were in town we took a boat tour of Annapolis and each of the kids got a chance to be the captain.

My baby girl ( who is actually my oldest) graduated from 5th grade:(

We went to the Aquarium.

Mariah got picked to be part of the dolphin show. The capital building.

I know what an awful blogger I am!! I have been MIA for 2 weeks. Life just got unbelievably crazy. School ended, my parents were in town for 5 days, then I left for North Carolina about an hour after my parents left. I feel like summer vacation hasn't even started. My list of summer to-do's is growing.

Last Minute Teacher Gift

I know that some of you are done with school. But we are not we have 3 more half days left. I found this great last minute teacher gift idea and knew it would be perfect for me, since it didn't take alot of effort on my part. Gift bags and baskets filled with goodies is one of the easiest and best gifts for any occasion. This idea was inspired by Megan at Everything Nice.

I included a magazine, a water bottle filled with 4 crystal light packets, twix bars and salted peanut packets.

Bug Birthday Party!!

Ok so I have been so busy with this birthday party and now I am so excited to show you how it turned out!! I do have some bad news though:( My camera batteries died about 20 min into the party. I did bring extras but they must have been used (even though they were with the new ones) because they lasted like 2 pictures then also died. My sister-in-law is suppose to send me some of hers but I am too impatient to wait to show you guys. Maybe I will post again if she has some great pictures to share.

So we did a combined birthday party since their birthdays are 1 week apart. My son is 7 and my daughter is 4. I did this last year with two seperate themes one sports theme and a princess theme. Not this year they are both into bugs so I went with that. We rented out our churches fellowship hall due to the number of guests. I usually do parties at home.

I found this green jewelry holder and used it to display pictures of the kids over the past year.

We had 12 kids ages 6-10 and 8 kids ages 3-4.

The older kids played a game called Buggy, Buggy cross my web ( sharks and minnows)

The younger kids made bug antennae headbands all the kids had a bug scavenger hunt with plastic bugs I hid. Over all everyone had a great time!!

I love red, white and blue front porches. There is something about driving through a small old fashioned town that is all decked out for Memorial Day or on the 4th of July that feels cozy and welcoming. I was looking through some ideas on the web and love these ones!! I had planned on making my own wreath for the front door and adding a cute chair with a pillow for this weekend but with the birthday party tomorrow I have just been too busy. But I will be prepared for the 4th!!

I love free things don't you? Making invitations with things you already have is such a great feeling. I came up with a really great way for a pocket invitation using an envelope.

This is a picture of the front of the envelope (pocket). Yes I am throwing a party for 2 kids. A boy and girl. This is the second year I have done this. Last year I did two seperate themes. This year I am doing one since they are both into bugs.

This is the back you can kinda see how I slit the side of the envelope and seeled the flap down.

You must try these sloppy joes. They are so yummy and so simple!!

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef or turkey
1 small onion , chopped
1/2c chopped celery
1/4c chopped bell pepper
1 can red fat, red sodium tomato soup
1/2c ketchup
1 Tbsp brown sugar
2 Tbsp mustard
1/4 tsp pepper
8 Whole Wheat buns

In a large saucepancoated with cooking spray cook the hamburg/ turkey meat, onion, celery and peppers over medium heat.

Stir in soup, ketchup,brown sugar, mustard and pepper.

Serve on a whole wheat bun!

Fell In love with some wallpaper

I am not huge on wallpaper. Mostly because of the effort to put it up. But also because I change decor in my home so often that the chore of taking wallpaper off the walls would make me cry. However I fell in love with this wallpaper that was in our hotel bathroom.

Since we are renting it is the perfect excuse to not wallpaper any walls but I could frame a piece of wallpaper. I need to find something sooo similiar to these pics I took.

It is funny how we can be so unmotivated to get going on a decorating project until we are inspired by something. Well last weekend I went to Marshalls, I LOVE Marshalls! I bought a new clock, decorative green balls and found an adorable wooden plack. Oh yeah I had also found an end table for only $10 at Goodwill a while back.

Organizing Your Photos

One of the biggest turn offs for scrapbooking is the overwhelming task of organizing photos, whether developed on the computer or on cd’s. There really is no short cut but I can promise you that it is very rewarding after it is done.

The very first step is to gather all photos in one spot and begin piling in different categories based on what make sense to you. I do not scrapbook every photo I get developed. I scrapbook about a ¼ of the photos I take. When I am separating photos any that will not be scrapbooked get put directly into a traditional photo album.

Photos can be categorized a few different ways.

1. By event:       Wedding              Vacation               Birthdays             Holidays

Spring/Summer Fashion Must Haves

Each season I like to invest in a very select few fashion items that are "in" at that time. Especially if I can find items at second hand stores or a steal of a deal at a brand name store. I decided to share with you what I am going to be looking out for this season.

A black and white striped cotton shirt.

A floral dress. I never would of thought but I really like these adorable dresses.

Ripped up bermuda shorts. I will be making my own version.

Clog open toed sandals. These ones are from Payless!!

Clothespin Magnets

I have been wanting to make these for so long. I love magnets that are clips. It makes it so easy to hold pictures and other important papers. These are so easy and inexpensive to make. It only cost me 1.6? The clothespins are from the Dollar Store and the magnet strips were from Joann's. I just used the paper, glue and inks I already had.

These make cute little gifts too just include some pictures, a scripture or a card.

Extravagant Kids Bedrooms

I am really in awe of these rooms. I just cannot believe the creativity that goes into these rooms. I love decorating my kids rooms with themes. Before moving here (MD) and now renting my kids had themed rooms. I am going to search out and see if I can find some decent pictures of them. My 10 year old had a paris, pink and black bedroom. My boys who shared a room had a sports themed room with an adorable baseball ceiling fan. My youngest had a butterfly princess room. I have been searching through model homes. I love the way they are decorated, they are so inspiring! I can't wait to get out of this rental house. I feel like I can't breath. I need to paint, remodel, or just make this home my home. We are only here till we find a house. We just neede to be sure we were going to be here (Maryland) for a while and we really like it here. The cost of housing is a little bit of a sticker shock at first. Spring Table Runner

I have had this white tablecloth from Target forever. It ended up being way to big for our table even with the leaf in it. But I loved the material and the border so I kept it. I do not have a spring table runner so I decided to use the tablecloth and turn it into a table runner.

All I used was a cherry blossom stamp and ink.

I love the edging! In order to keep it on the table runner I had to cut it from both sides.

I made my cuts 7 inches from the edge.

Here are the two sides after cutting. I am not the straightest cutter as you can see. But it really didn't matter because I used the outside edges as my guide when sewing.

I sewed the right sides together and ironed the seems so that it would lay flat.

I could have ironed the material flat but the reason I liked it in the first place was due to the linen look of it.

Lastly I stamped it in a somewhat random pattern. I double stamped it first with brown then with pink. This pic is only the brown.

Don't you love it! It is so clean and fresh!

7 Stages of A Mom's New Butt Very Funny!!

I found this article in my Parents magazine and it made me laugh pretty hard! I read it to my sister and she laughed pretty good too. I just had to share it:)

Stage 1: Denial

This isn’t a new butt. It’s the same awesome butt you had the day you got married.

Stage 2: Shock
Well, it’s technically the same butt, but for some reason it doesn’t fit into the pants you wore last year—before you got pregnant. But there’s no way your butt could be so drastically altered by having a baby. Could it? OMG!

Stage 3: Anger
Fine. It’s not the same butt. It has curves and divots and new places that sweat. It follows you whe-rever you go. Stupid, annoying butt and its stupid, annoying cellulite! Is it possible to get a restraining order to prevent it from stalking you?

Stage 4: Depression
No dice. It turns out you can’t get a restraining order against your own body. And if you inquire about it people laugh at you. And that makes you cry. As do the elastic-waist pants you just bought, even though you are nine months postpartum. Those lying liars who said “nine months on, nine months off” must have gotten to keep their original cute butt.

Stage 5: Guilt
You are a grown woman. You have a degree. You know that women should be—and are—more than just hot bodies. You know objectification is cruel. You’ve read the magazine articles that tell you how awesome you are. You created life. And yet…this butt. IT WON’T GO AWAY.

Stage 6: Fear
You probably have Flesh Expanding Butt Disease. It’s very rare, but if you get FEBD your butt will eventually consume your entire body, preventing you from leading a normal life. There is no cure for this horrible ailment. Best to just go buy a bunch of sweatpants.

Stage 7: Acceptance
Right. So it isn’t that bad, really. Your new butt does come with some nice features. It’s easier to close the car door now. Your kids have something to hang on when you’re at the grocery store. And your husband likes it. A lot. In fact, your new butt is kind of growing on you…

Warning: Yummy Salad Recipe

I am not really fond of too many "diet" recipes but I just had to share this recipe with you because it was amazing! It is a dinner salad recipe from the flat belly diet I have been doing. I am sorry I didn't take any pictures I wasn't expecting to love it so much.

California Turkey Salad

2 cups of mixed baby greens tossed with 2 Tbsp light balsamic vinaigrette and topped with 3 oz browned ground turkey meat, topped with 2 Tbsp crumbled gorganzola cheese, 2 Tbsp walnuts and 1 small pear chopped in bite size pieces.

Simple Easter Centerpiece

After fooling around with a few different ideas and containers I finally came up with this centerpiece for my table and I love it!! It was so simple too!! So that means I really love it.

I took a large glass cylinder and put a smaller glass vase in the center. Filled around the vase with my $ Store moss and some speckeled eggs. I love these white mums. This idea is very versatile it could be made with any size vases/cylinders and the fillings can be changed with the seasons.

I just made this table runner and can't wait to share it with you next week!

Our Trip to The Baltimore Zoo

We decided to take a trip to the Baltimore Zoo on Saturday. We haven't been to a zoo in almost 2 years. We bought a membership to keep us motivated to visit more often and try out other zoos around Maryland or when on vacation. By the end of the day my oldest daughter decided she wants to work with zoo animals when she grows up! Archaeological intrigue

No laughing matter

Despite their reputation for maniacal laughter, hyenas are actually very intelligent. The high-pitched cackling sounds they make is used to communicate either fear or excitement to other hyenas. You can safely assume that if you hear this sound, the hyenas are not sharing a good joke.

Bearded lady

Animal facts for kids would not be complete without including some reptiles. Contrary to popular belief, the bearded dragon has a beard whether it is male or female. When they are resting or complacent, their beards are deflated, but they will puff up as soon as they feel threatened. This makes them seem larger in the wild, and serves as a defense mechanism.

Seeing is believing

Anacondas (and a few other types of snakes) have eyes and nostrils on the tops of their heads so they can stalk prey in the water without revealing themselves. This is also helpful because they are very thick snakes, so it's difficult for them to keep a low profile on land or in the water.

Slippery when wet

Polar bears might look furry (and downright cuddly) from a distance, but their hairs are actually narrow tubes that reflect the sun's rays and help maintain body temperature. Their hair is also very oily and water-resistant, which allows them to shake off moisture after they've taken a dip.

Hear me roar

A lion's roar can be heard at distances up to five miles. Talk about lungs! They are also Africa's largest carnivore, making them a serious predator in the wild. Their roar can be given to warn other lions of danger or to signify an impressive kill.

Questionable identity

Lions and tigers are so closely related physically and biologically that without their fur, even experts have difficulty telling them apart. Their facial and body structure are incredibly similar, which for a long time made bones and fossils difficult to identify.

These animal facts for kids can be printed out and taken with you to the zoo, or you can use them to impress your children with your extensive knowledge of zoo animals. Either way, make sure to also take advantage of the placards at the zoo in front of animal cages, which often share some interesting facts and surprising trivia.

I have been trying to come up with a creative wreath idea that I could use for Easter and keep it up all spring. I came across this idea on HGTV.com but in a Christmas version. This wreath is so versatile it could be adapted with any season and any colors. I am not going to lie it took some time. But it was worth every minute for such a unique looking wreath.

Supplies needed: a styrofoam wreath (I got mine from the Dollar Tree), pins, and ribbons I chose 4 colors but you can use what you like.

First thing to do is cut the ribbon in 2 inch strips. The size is dependent on the size of your wreath for large wreaths try 3 inch strips.

So Sorry for the blurry picture:( I rolled the ribbon up and pinned them in place.

As you can see they were placed in no order just random.

Once completed I hung the wreath with left over ribbon and just pinned it in place.

Here is the finished product doesn't it just make you smile:) The colors and softness of the ribbon is so fresh and springy!!

You must try this sometime!! I bought this lemon box cake a while ago because it was on sale plus coupon, you know my dilema. My husband really doesn't like lemon desserts neither do my kids. So I have been procrastinating on using this cake mix. These bananas have seen better days so I decided to add bananas to the cake mix and it turned out amazing:) Everyone loved it. It actually had more of a banana cake flavor with a hint of lemon. I added 2 bananas to the mix and it needed to bake a few extra minutes to cook all the way through but other than that I just followed the directions.

This is just canned frosting mixed with yellow food coloring to make it pretty:)

My mouth waters just looking at the picture, this was an unbelievably moist cake!!

Cardio at Home

Ok so I have been able to work out in a gym for the past 6 years, BUT not since moving. The gym memberships for a family of six is like almost $200 per month here. I just can't bring myself to do that. I could use that $200. We are still looking around but it is taking way more time than I would like it to. So I have had to get creative with my cardio at home with out a cardio machine. I thought I would share some ideas with you that I do at home.

1. Go buy a jump rope:) It might take a little practice if you haven't jumped rope since high school gym class. Once you get it though it is quite the workout.

2. Run your stairs.

3. Jump!! Add jumps to your lunges, squat or do jumping
jacks.

4. Walk around the house for a certain amount of time. Set a timer.

5. Do a video workout, you could buy one, watch one on cable or even on the internet. I really like: Excercisetv.tv

6. Clean the house without taking breaks. Vacuuming, then sweeping, dusting and then picking up toys can make me sweat.

7. It is important to just move throughout the day:)

The Salvation Army near our house is closing:( So now I will have to drive further to shop there. However they were having 50% off everything in the store, so I took advantage of the deals. I got all you see here for $21. They were just giving things away (practically).

This cedar chest I got for just $10:) My husband and I are going to refinish it and use it for a hope chest for our youngest. (We already have one for our other daughter.)

I love the way cedar chests smell especially when it only cost $10.

The rest of these goodies came to $9 something. The diapers you ask? No we are not expecting but they were the tiny preemie size and are perfect for baby dolls.

Tuscan Turkey Soup Recipe

This is one of our Families Favorite Soup Recipes. It does have a sweetness to it that can be a little strange so I just use a little less pumpkin in mine.

Tuscan Turkey Soup

1c chopped onion
1c chopped celery
1tsp minced garlic
2Tbsp olive oil
2 cans (14 1/2 oz) chicken broth
2c cooked chicken or turkey ( I use ground turkey I like the texture in this soup)
1 can solid pack pumpkin
1 can of white beans ( I like the cannellini)
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp basil
grated parmesan cheese

In a large saucepan, saute onion, celery and garlic in oil.

Stir in broth, turkey, pumpkin, beans, salt, basil and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10-15 minutes.

Makes 8 servings

Here is my Easter Tree that cost me $2. I used my Pier 1 $9 vase that I already had, moss that I already had and used sticks straight from the backyard. They do have moss at the Dollar Tree in case you need some. My $2 was from the 2 bags of small eggs I bought at The Dollar Tree. My kids had a blast picking out the sticks and hanging the eggs.

Mom's Time Out

Sometimes as mom's we just need a time out. Not a you go sit in time out for being naughty kind of time out. But the whistle blowing I'm calling a time out kind. Sports teams know the importance of a time out. When the game is getting just a bit to close and the team might lose, or when a player just needs to take a break, rest and regroup themself. Well I am definetly in need of some time outs myself. It is not a selfish act to do something for yourself once in a while, it will make you more fun to be around and help you to unwind at the end of a long day or week or month. Trust me your kids will be glad you did. Maybe just a few minutes alone in prayer, or some time to sit down and read. It doesn't take much for a mom to become overwhelmed and to even feel out of control. I will certainly admit I have gone into the bathroom with a magazine, my Bible or a good book and spent 10 min or so alone. My kids are under the impression I am actually using the bathroom even though I am not. I do not lie to them I just don't tell them. I know I am not alone on this one:)

Ideas that are free:

- When dad gets home or after the kids are in bed go take a bath or give yourself a pedicure or facial
- Read a book
-Go for a walk in the neighborhood or park
-Do a craft project you have been wanting to get done
-Excersice
-Spend a few extra minutes in the shower just letting the hot water run on your shoulders and back.
-Join a ladies Bible study
-Make a list of things you would like to learn, try or accomplish and start doing them
-When doing chores turn on music and sing to it (it really makes something that doesn't seem fun almost seem like a treat)

Things with little cost:

-Rent a comedy (yes a comedy not a romance) We can use a laugh
-Join a moms group
-Go shopping (only if you have a few extra dollars to spend)
-Take a class to learn something new
-Get a hobby if you don't already have one (or several like me)
-Join a women's sports team
-Go out to dinner (with hubby or a friend)

So I encourage you to go do something for yourself today!!

Pottery Barn Pillow Inspirations Part 2

I have really started to like the sweater pillows they have at Pottery Barn. So I went to Goodwill and found some sweaters I liked and transformed them into pillow covers. This makes 4 new pillows!! You can check out 2 other pillows I did here. I still have 2 more to cover, but have not yet decided what to do with them.

First I cut off the necks and arms

Secondly I cut off the entire top portion in order to get a square

Sorry about the horrible picture. I sewed the top closed.

After jamming the pillow in the opening that I left in the bottom, I hand sewed it closed. I pinched the sides in, I am sure there are other ways to do it but I liked how this turned out.

My kids couldn't wait for me to finish with the pictures they wanted to cuddle with them on the couch. They are so soft.

Menu Planner/ Cooking Magazine Organizer

I have been meaning to post this for weeks now. I just haven't gotten around to it. So don't mind the old pictures. I have so many cooking magazines and have been needing to find a way to organize them. I also have been struggling with oraganizing the way I plan meals and shopping lists ect. I always plan my meals out for the week on Sundays (I need to see sales before I plan) and write up my shopping lists. But I have always done this on paper that just gets lost or misplpaced and then it is the middle of the week and I can't remember what I was going to make. This frustrates me. I decided to make a menu planner with a binder, that I decorated just for me to say it is pretty:) I love binders, I have a fitness/diet binder a decoarting ideas binder and a coupon binder.

I decorated my binder with scrapbook paper and letter stamps

This is my notebook that I have used for years to write down recipes I have made and my family really liked (these are the recipes I would make again and again) I store it on the inside of the cover

For the first page I have my month at a glance page. I write down church nights, sports activities and the nights my husband will be out of town (I tend to make really easy meals these nights) The month calender is important for when I plan out that weeks meals, it will also help me to see what meals I have already made that month so I don't repeat it.

on the 4th and 5th pages I keep party planners, one for birthdays and the other is just generic

I then have dividers to separate my recipes that are cards and sheets.

I seperated into these categories: Appitezers, Main Dishes, Sides and Bread, Soup and Salad, then Dessert

Lastly page protectors organized by seasons. I take these out of my larger binder and change them with the seasons.

This is the larger binder that holds all my magazines. They are all seperated by season.

I have been using this method for 3 weeks now and love it. Everything is in one spot:)

For those of you who don't like to ahve to plan your own meals there are many sites that have pre-planned menus with shopping lists. I like to plan my own meals but I get great ideas from Super Healthy Kids

I found this blog a few weeks ago, and found a series of posts she and her husband were doing titled "He Said/ She Said". It is a video series on Lust and Marriage. This is a very real and vulnerable thing they did. I know from experience that what they have to say is true. My husband and I have a very honest relationship with eachother. I can honestly say I know everything about him and his struggles being a christian man in a very ungodly world. When we were first married I was very clueless to the struggles men faced. A couple years into our marriage I found out. As hard as it might be to swallow, it has helped our marriage imensly and we have grown as a couple. We are also much more aware of our boys and the struggles they do and or will face. Our children are not allowed to watch The Little Mermaid movie. Around 2 years ago my son Zachy (mind you he was only 6 then) had watched the movie. Everyday he was asking to watch it over and over again, I overheard him saying too one of the other kids that's it that's the part and they would rewind the movie. I confronted him to ask him what he liked about the movie so much he told me there was one part he liked. It was the part were the octopus changes Ariel into a human, there was a very quick flash of what appeared to be nudity. I was shocked, I had watched the movie so many times growing up and never even noticed that. It showed me how different a little boy and little girl are.

Easter wreath inspirations

I love everything about Easter!! I love the spring, and the flowers, the warmer weather, the excitement that summer will be here soon and most of all a celebration of The Lord's Resurrection! I am already starting to bring out a few decorations and buying supplies I need to make some new one's. One thing I need to make is a new wreath for the door. I was searching the internet for some ideas and thought I would share them with you.

Mini Meatloafs

I saw these in a Kraft cookbook and had to give them a try since they were so cute. I followed my own recipe for meatloaf and just put them in muffin tins. These were the perfect portion size for the kids and they loved them!!

Make sure to spray the tin with cooking spray.

Scoop out the center and fill with whatever you want. I mixed bbq sauce and garlic powder. But you could use pasta sauce with italian seasoning, salsa or many other things.

Bake at 350 for 30 min. Then sprinkle with cheese, place back in oven until cheese is fully melted.

I served it with mashed potatoes and green beans.

My Obsession with Edamame

I made this picture nice and big so you would drool like I am. I looooovvvveeee Edamame!!! Edamame are just soy beans. This is my favorite thing to snack on. They have such a nice crunch and the way I make them they are salty mmmmm:) I never knew I would love something this much and that it would be incredibly healthy for me.

In a 1/2 cup serving you will get:

120 calories

9 grams fiber
2.5 grams fat
1.5 grams polyunsaturated fat (0.3 grams plant omega-3 fatty acids)
0.5 gram monounsaturated fat
11 grams protein
13 grams carbohydrate
15 mg sodium
10% of the Daily Value for vitamin C
10% Daily Value for iron
8% Daily Value for vitamin A
4% Daily Value for calcium

The very first time I had these I was very leary, I hate peas. I thought for sure these would be similiar, THEY ARE NOT!!

When I make them I just toss them in some boiling water for a fe minutes, When they change in color I take them out.  I prefer mine crunchier but some people like them a little softer. Then I toss them in a little salt and eat away:)

I found some information on soy that just makes me love them more***

Soy protein may help reduce insulin resistance, kidney damage, and fatty liver in people with diabetes, according to a study in rats.

A new study from the Chinese University of Hong Kong indicated that soy protein containing isoflavones (phytoestrogens) significantly reduced overall cholesterol and LDL "bad" cholesterol, and raised HDL or "good" cholesterol, especially in men.

A study in women reported that regular consumption of soy foods was associated with healthy cholesterol levels.

The component thought to be at least partly responsible for soy's health benefits is a type of phytoestrogen called isoflavones. Isoflavones also appear to work with certain proteins in soy to protect against cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis.

Results from a new study in China suggest that eating more soybean protein may help prevent and treat hypertension.

A study in which 12 postmenopausal women drank 36 ounces of soy milk daily for 16 weeks noted an anti-inflammatory effect of the isoflavones found in soy. According to the study authors, this may be important in the prevention of bone loss and cancer, among other things

Pottery Barn Inspired Pillows Part #1

I have been wanting to cover some old pillows I have had for a very, very long time. I love all the new pillows that pottery barn has. We have brown leather couches so a neutral color works well. I found $2 linen window panels at Goodwill. Two of them ended up on the window and the third I decided to cover 2 of the pillows.

Here is my inspiration:

This is the curtain panel I found at goodwill for $2!!!

This is the pillow covered before. I am a very amature sewer so I do everything by eye. I used the stitching and seems that the curtain already had as my guide. The larger seem at the bottom of the curtain is where the buttons will go and I used the side seem for one of the sides. Leaving me with one side to sew.

You can see the edge I had to pin for the seem.

After sewing up the side, I folded the wrong sides together to make a pocket. Pinned then sewed the sides together.

After sewing up the sides I fold the flap down and sew it closed.

Add the buttons and finished!!

I love how they turned out!! It took only a couple dollars and about an hour to make both!!!

Sorry the directions aren't more detailed, I am a beginner sewer:) Which proves that if I can do it you can too!!

Wow! the Lord has really been showing me how much I need to work on taming my tongue!! Last night our Pastor did a message about how the words that come out of our mouth are eternal. I don't know about you but my words are not always pleasant, my tone can be so sarcastic and harsh! If I would record my day and my interaction with my kids what would I see? It would be extremely convicting. Would I yell? Would I be impatient? Would I critisize? Am I confrontational? For me probably all of the above at some point of the day. It truly is my hearts cry to be soft spoken, loving and have a meek and gentle spirit. I want to portray Christ to my kids.

Proverbs 16:24 "Pleasant words are as honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones."

Proverbs 16:32 "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city."

Garlic Roasted Chicken Leg Quarters

I have been doing my best to use up food I have in the freezer. I have had a bag of chicken leg quarters for a very long time. Plus chicken leg quarters are so much less expensive than chicken breasts it is good to have a few recipes that are amazing. I came across this yummy recipe but decided to throw everything in the crockpot instead. It turned out so tender and moist, I was so glad I used the crockpot!

Garlic Roasted Chicken Leg Quarters

Garlic roasted chicken leg quarters are tasty and easy on the budget. Serve this chicken with roasted or mashed potatoes and your favorite vegetables.

Ingredients:

4 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 teaspoon dried leaf oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon chili powder

1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

dash freshly ground black pepper

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 chicken leg quarters

1/2 cup chicken broth (part dry white wine, if desired)

Preparation:

Combine the garlic, oregano, salt, chili powder, cumin, and black pepper. Add olive oil and mix well. Use a mortar and pestle to make a paste consistency, or mash with a fork.

Wash chicken leg quarters and pat dry. Snip off any excess skin. Arrange the chicken pieces in the crockpot and pat the garlic mixture over each quarter. Pour 1/2 cup of chicken broth (part dry white wine, if desired) into the baking dish. Cook on low 6 or more hours.
Serves 4.
